A TRIBUTE TO NEW ORLEANS

A TRIBUTE TO NEW ORLEANS-ART I
I wanted students to draw an architectural drawing and I loved the outcome of our last project that was done in oil pastels, so we combined the architecture of New Orleans and the bright colors of the oil pastels.  I think the combination worked out great!

Before starting on the project, we viewed some video clips of the jazz scene in New Orleans.  The students got to hear the music, see the bright colors and the brilliant architecture of the city.  They also saw the devastation that occured from Katrina.  I think that their work captures the essence of New Orleans from an interesting point of view.

November

NOVEMBER ART STUDENT OF THE MONTH

ART I students have been working hard on various drawing projects.  We have been using oil pastels for the past couple of weeks.  They are bright and beautiful when the project is finished, but it is a messy process.  I apologize for the messy clothing that students are wearing home on art days.

ART II students are working on Masterpiece Reproductions.  They are copying the work of various master artists but they have to work with a different color palette.  I am so excited to see how they turn out.

Pictures below are students working on projects.

Sorry Pictures will not upload.....I will try again later.

High School Art Students-Drawing from Nature and African Mask Inspired Art

Art I students have been studying drawing in class. They are learning a variety of shading techniques.  The drawings above are inspired by God's creation.  Students worked from copyright free clip-art images and worked in pencil.

Art II students are working on Paper Mosaics.  There is always a lot of whining and complaining while they are working on this project, but the results are worth it.  Art II is an art history based approach to art and the art we produce will sometimes reflect what we are learning in class.  The paper mosaic project is inspired by the mosaics from Ancient Greece and Rome.  The students do not have to work with historical images, but they still learn about the work involved in creating a mosaic.  Below are photos of the students working in class on projects.  I hope to post the completed projects in a few weeks.

High School Art Student of the Month for OCTOBER

Each month a student will be selected as the art student of the month.  This month a senior was selected.  He is in Art IV this year.  Art III and IV Students work independantly on projects of their choice.

The art room at HPCA has been busy, busy, busy so far this year.  We are off to a great start and students are creating some terrific art pieces.

Art I has been learning about The Elements of Art and The Principles of Design and have been working for the last five weeks on design projects.

Here are some examples of what they are doing.

ART II
Art II Students have been studying The Art of China.  They created paintings based on the Chinese paintings that we have studied.

There are alot more, but you will have to come to the art show in May to see the rest.
I am very pleased with the progress!
Currently, Art I has started a drawing unit and they are working in pencil with the subject nature.  Art II is learning about African Art and they are painting using the African Mask as their inspiration.  We will show them off when they are complete.
Art III and IV and Honors students are busy working on their individual projects and we will post them in about a week.
